흑인 소울 보컬그룹 스타일리스틱스는 1970년대 필라델피아 소울 뮤직의 대표주자였다

1968년 리드보컬 러셀 톰킨스 쥬니어(Russell Thompkins,Jr)의 주도하에 결성,

71년에 데뷔앨범을 발표하면서 팝계에 등장,,

 

흑인 특유의 구슬픈 감성과 러셀 톰킨스 쥬니어의 섬세한 가성창법(falsetto창법)이

매력적인 그룹으로 모두 5명 남성 멤버로 구성된 소울(soul)그룹이다

<You make me feel brand new>, <You are everything> 등이 크게 히트하면서

미국 뿐만아니라 유럽에 까지 많은 팬들이 생겨 났는데 

70년대 가장 성공한 소울(soul)그룹으로 인정 받았으며

우리나라에서는 특히나 사랑받았던 곡이 <Because I love you girl>이다

이곡은 올드 팝 팬들에게 오랫동안 사랑받는 곡이기도 하다

 

러셀 톰킨스 쥬니어의 가성창법으로 불리워지는 Stylistics의 사운드는

부드럽고 섬세하게 느껴지는데 아무래도 여성팬들에게

더 많이 어필되지 않을까 하는 생각을 해본다

가성창법은 우리나라에서 조관우가 대표적이다
